No smoking, No boozing

The biggest complaint I have against Event Management companies which organize music concerts in India is that they do not allow smoking or boozing at the concert venue.

I don’t foresee them relaxing these rules anytime in the near future as well .. But, what may come in handy to sneak in the butts and booze to the concerts are these interesting gizmos: a cell phone which doubles up as a cigarette pack and a sandal which can carry whiskey.

Hic Hic Hurray !

Looking forward to the Iron Maiden Concert

On my way back from office to home today, I happened to listen to an interview with Venkat Vardhan, MD of DNA Networks on Radio Indigo.

During the interview Venkat mentioned that the 20,000 odd fans expected for the concert will also get to witness two new concepts at the show.

  1. Giant Screens provided by Sanyo, which will be really beneficial for the guys who would be towards the end of the ground.
  2. Iron Maiden is getting along its merchandise. So, you could get to buy some T-shirts (with graphics of eddie playing cricket etc) and a few other items as souvenirs.

And, what does Iron Maiden want to take back as a souvenir from India?

Tickets for the Iron Maiden concert at Bangalore

It’s official now that Iron Maiden is coming to Bangalore on the 17th of March 2007 as part of their “A matter of life and death” tour.

The tickets are on sale and I just ordered mine at TicketPro.

Once you are at the homepage of TicketPro, you could just click on the advertisement you see for the concert to book the tickets OR you could click on the “Outlets” tab which you will see on the top, on clicking that you will see the Iron Maiden concert tickets in the list (3rd from the top). Click the same, and fill out the form. The tickets are available in 2 categories: Rs 900/- and Rs 1500/-.

As simple as that!

Update: I have had a few comments for this post inquiring about the outlets where the tickets are available in different cities. The Planet M outlets where the tickets are available are specified on the TicketPro site, but just in case you find it too painful to go there and figure out the details, I have reproduced the same details here.

The Rolling Stones @ Rio De Janeiro

rolling-stones.jpgThere was a program on Nat Geo the day before yesterday, which showed how the crew of The Rolling Stones geared up for their biggest live show ever which happened at Copacabana Beach, Rio De Janeiro in Feb 2006.

The concert was free of cost and it is estimated that over a million people attended it. The stage which was set up was at the height of a six storeyed building. It took 2 Boeing 747’s to get all the acoustic systems to the venue. The crowd occupied about half the length of the 2.5 mile long beach. There were about 8 giant video screens and more than a dozen sound towers installed to broadcast the concert for fans who were far off from the stage. The sexagenarian rockers opened the gig with “Jumping Jack Flash”, and blasted out about 20 songs.

The Rolling Stones bring 1.5 million people to the sands of Copacabana, only a small fraction of which are visible here. It was the group's biggest public audience of their career.

10,000 police officers were posted all over the place to take care of any trouble which brewed during the concert. Thankfully there were no casualties, just that:

  • About 10 people got squeezed between baricades and were rushed to emergency
  • Police rescued about 24 people from drowning in the sea
  • One woman went into labour during the concert

Can you just imagine yourself being part of something of this magnitude? Watching Rolling Stones play to a million people by the beach side? WOW !! Would we ever have something like this in India?

Btw, Another interesting snippet which I managed to google out ;-)

Millions of free condoms were avaialble for those indulging.
