New Variants of Chevrolet SRV
Sify Business reports that GM has plans of introducing new variants of Chevrolet SRV in India.
One of the variants would be a limited edition model. GM plans to make about 150 of them. Like any other limited edition vehicle which GM has launched in the past like Royale and ELITE based on their Optra, Astra and Corsa models, I think, this variant can be expected to have some goodies at a not so very steep price. I have liked all the limited editions which GM has launched except the designer SRV which was launched sometime ago based onĀ the design by Nandita Mahtani, a fashion designer. It somehow reminded me of a Mumbai Taxi.
The other variant GM has plans of introducing is a 2 L TDCi diesel engine. I would personally be interested to check out this model (SRV) and also the diesel Optra which GM has plans of launching sometime this year. Having owned a GM car in the past in India, I am quite convinced with the comfort levels a GM car can offer, the ride quality, build quality and the overall ownership experience. One concern I have had with the SRV is that the performance it delivers does not keep up to the kind of cool image the car tries to portray. It would be really great if GM manages to churn out a power pack machine with some good features at a reasonable price. This (SRV + Optra) would definitely be a good fight for the Hyundai Verna, the Ford Fiesta (existing and the 1.6 Diesel which Ford is planning to launch) and the other diesel cars in this category. Who knows..If GM has its stars aligned, it could give a tough time to the Skoda Octavia also.
